Battlecruiser PRELUDE
When the Starcraft Saga came to it's latest chapter, Sarah Kerrigan, the Zerg Queen of Blades, had won the Brood Wars. Whatever Zerg Cerebrates that managed to survive fled the now dreaded Korprolu system, and the bulk of the ravenous zerg swarms swelled Kerrigan's ranks. Surviving Terran factions, now beaten and disunited, recoiled to their home worlds, seeking refuge and a chance to fortify themselves against the storm that was bound to come.

The Protoss, now based on the dark world, Shakurez, rebuilt their forces, and continued to expand and retake territory lost to the zerg when Auir fell. They also prepared there forces for the task they knew they would one day have to undertake: going to war once again, this time to defeat the Queen of Blades once and for all. With the help of Jim Raynor and his small band of raiders, they came ever closer to achieving their first of many goals: retaking their ancient home world, Auir.

Meanwhile, somewhere within the vast reaches of space, light-years away from the Korporlu sector, a single, battered, crumbling battlecruiser emerged in to United Earth Directorate space. It was the last surviving asset of the fleet the UED had sent to conquer the Korporlu sector. The tales it's few living crewmembers would tell would seep through the ranks of the UED forces, and, despite screening the media from the populace, sent waves of terror throughout the entire human race.

The UED had lost. And the Zerg were coming.

Now in a panic, the UED scrambled to assemble a new fleet. Unlike it's predecessor, this Expeditionary Force would have very different objectives; befriend any available and militarily capable terran factions, and wipe out anything that resisted. It was clear that the Zerg could not be tamed and the UED would now need the help of any surviving Terran factions within the renegade sector if they ever hoped to succeed.

But the UED was not the only power on earth to hear of the defeat. Though almost the entire globe was covered by UED territory, there remained a handful of democratic states that, despite ever increasing military, social, and economic pressure, had refused to give up their sovereignty. This small but resilient force was known, simply, as the Alliance.

Despite overwhelming UED power on the Earth, it was the primary Alliance nations that had spearheaded the first space exploration programs, literally hundreds of years ago. Thus, the Alliance survived because it maintained a head start on all space exploration programs, and it's colonies in space were considerable, rivaling and even surpassing that of the colonies of the much larger UED. But one thing was certain: if the Zerg reached Earth, everyone would be doomed, both the UED and the Alliance alike.

So, while the UED scrambled to assemble a new fleet, the Alliance decided to take matters in to their own hands. Now ahead of the UED in forces due to the massive losses the UED sustained in it's last venture, the Alliance Expeditionary Force, or AEF(2), was ready to deploy to enemy territory long before their rivals could. The Allied commanders were not foolish, however. They knew that any delays in their operations would give the UED time to catch up. Although both factions wanted to end the zerg threat, there was no one the UED hated more than the Alliance. The generals at the Alliance HQ of New Ireland decided that a swift, decisive opening action would have to proceed the all out attack on the Zerg. They needed to swiftly occupy a planet on the edge of the Korporlu sector, and begin a massive operation to move troops and equipment there. The new planet would be the "field HQ" of the AEF(2), and would act as a staging point for the attack to come. Scouts were deployed, and soon returned with information regarding a possible candidate system for the staging point. The Allied Commanders approved the system. It had light enemy (zerg) force emplacements, but rested on the edge of the sector and had a "human life friendly" atmosphere and environment, making it ideal for the operation.

The Alliance named the system after a General from the war that gave birth to one of it's foremost member nations. They named it The Badger System.

At 2400 hours, the first compliments of the strike force that would take the planet massed at New Whales colony, or, stage point OMEGA. at approximately 0023 hours, they began to mass up to move out...
